December 27th, 2009

Congratulations and thanks to everyone who participated in Rotary Walk 2009. Together we raised more than $10,000 for Rotary International’s Polio Plus program. That’s enough money to vaccinate 16,000 children!

Again, thanks for everybody’s hard work and great effort!

We did it! More than $8,000 for Polio Plus (and counting!)

October 25th, 2009
Thanks to everyone who participated in Rotary Walk 2009. We’ve raised over $8,000 for Polio Plus, and donations are still coming in. Great work! (Think we could raise $10,000 for Polio Plus this year before planning begins for Rotary Walk 2010?)
There are many stories, photos, and video coming in from this year’s Rotary Walk. We’ll post them here and on the “Rotary Walk to the White House” Facebook page as soon as possible. Did you walk on World Polio Awareness Day? Or hold an event for Polio Plus? If so, please send your stories, photos, and videos to info@rotarywalk.org or post them on the Rotary Walk Facebook page.
Meantime, here’s are a few photos to get started:

Join Us for the Final Five Walk on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 2 pm

October 15th, 2009

We’re very forunate to have Chris Mallin, Polio Plus Chairman for the Rotary Club of Arlington, helping us with the Final Five Walk on Saturday, October 24th. Here’s the plan:

We will meet at 2 pm at the Arlington Co building parking lot at 1400 N.
Quincy Street (see map links below) – this is near Washington-Lee High
School.  The Custis trail is located across from that parking area.  There
is plenty of parking in that vicinity and it is a short walk to the Ballston
metro for your members that are traveling in.  Some of our members might
jump on the trail a little further west, but we can all meet at the Quincy
location at the predetermined time.

As far as the route goes, it looks like the Custis trail, to Mt. Vernon
trail, to Memorial Bridge, across the mall, to the Ellipse is the best bet.
The distance is around 5 miles.  Once in DC, folks can walk back or take
the metro to Ballston.

If you’ d like to get involved, there’s still time!

Remember, signing up to walk doesn’t mean you have to walk 20 miles or even 5 miles to the White House. It’s just a pledge of support for Polio Plus and this walk, and it only costs $10.

If you don’t want to register, please consider sponsoring one of our walkers. You can do this by going to http://www.firstgiving.com/rotarywalk.

If you’d rather make an offline donation, you can mail it to the Rotary Club of Gainesville-Haymarket, c/o Rotary Walk 2009, P.O. Box 90, Haymarket, VA, 20168-0090. Checks should be made out to “Rotary International-Polio Plus” with “Rotary Walk 2009″ in the “For” section.

Again, thanks so much for your help and support.
